Dear Chief Hargis,
The Greater Hampton Roads Division of the March of Dimes commends and thanks the Portsmouth Police Department and you for outstanding and long term support of the March of Dimes. Over the past 10 years, the Portsmouth Police Department has contributed more than $50,000 to the March of Dimes.
The Chesapeake Bay Police Rodeo & Skills Competition has become a recognized and anticipated event for both police motorcycle officers and March of Dimes. While it is a competition of skills, challenge and fun, the rodeo competition benefits a serious cause – the health of all babies.
The March of Dimes funds research, education, community programs and advocacy for the prevention of birth defects, premature births and infant mortality. Autism, Down Syndrome, learning disabilities, cancer and Alzheimer Disease are more than 100 other health concerns that also fall under the March of Dimes research umbrella.
Thank you to the Portsmouth Police Motorcycle riders and riders from other districts for giving their time, and also a big thank you to those behind the scenes who work to make the Chesapeake Bay Police Rodeo & Skills Competition a great and rewarding success.
The March of Dimes was founded by community members giving and serving to improve the health of our nation. Thank you for continuing a 75-year tradition of working, giving and serving to make life better for others. For service and generosity, we are honored to count the Portsmouth Police Department and Chesapeake Bay Police Rodeo participants as March of Dimes Heroes.
